This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Is Good News for Jaime and Brienne Shippers
Now that Jon and Daenerys finally banged on Game of Thrones, we can focus on Winterfell’s other most shippable pair: Brienne of Tarth and Tormund Giantsbane. It’s no secret that Tormund has it bad for Brienne; sure, the two might’ve been separated in every episode, but that didn’t diminish Tormund’s red-bearded infatuation. The GoT army is just waiting for them to get together.
But a new theory suggests it’s Jaime who’s in Brienne’s future—not Tormund. A Redditor named SCBeauty asserts that when Jaime told Bronn in season five that he wanted to “die in the arms of the woman [he] love[s],” he meant Brienne.
And this make sense, if you think about this possible turn of events. Let’s say Jaime kills Cersei, his sister and lover. That would probably cause one of Cersei’s guards to kill Jaime, which would land him in Brienne’s arms for his final breath.
That’s not the end of this theory, though. SCBeauty posits Jaime and Brienne will become romantic before he dies—and they’ll have children together. The evidence? Beauty and the Beast, the 1987 CBS show George R.R Martin wrote before he did A Song of Ice and Fire.
“GRRM has been writing for Beauty and the Beast series in late eighties just before he started writing A Song of Ice and Fire, and he still says that he loved that series,” the user wrote, according to Inverse. “In that series Beauty died in the Beast’s arms after giving birth to his child.”
The parallels to Beauty as Jaime and Brienne as Beast are undeniable. Jaime is viewed as one of the most physically striking men in the Seven Kingdoms. He also referred to Brienne as a “beast” when they first met.
And then there’s this recent quote that Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) gave to The New York Times, where she essentially shuts down any speculation Brienne and Tormund are endgame.
“Do you think she actually likes him? I don’t think it’s something Brienne wants! Tormund is quite a rough and ready man,” she said. “He’s a man who’s bragged about having sexual intercourse with a bear, and so I question whether that is necessarily the right person for Brienne. Does that man display enough sensitivity? What do you think Tormund would have to come up with to win her heart?”
This leaves the door pretty wide open for Jaime. Of course, this is all speculation at this point; we’ll know everything for sure when Game of Thrones returns…in 2019. Jon Snow, help us all.
